What is a flash website?

Flash website design is much more dynamic and eye catching than normal HTML solutions and can really make your website and business stand out from others. Flash is basically a movie that plays but it actions in the back end that controls the flash movie. You can tell it when to stop and when to play. It’s also much more versatile than a HTML website or even dynamic php websites. With flash you can have more movement and interactivity.

What is the down fall from using flash?

The only downfall is that Google only started to crawl flash websites recently. And also that a flash website is actually a movie and every time you view the flash movie or go to visit the website, the movie starts from the beginning. This means that you will not be able to point url’s to specific pages like HTML or CMS websites. You can only provide someone with the domain of that website where the movie will start from the beginning each time.

The other problem is that some visitors that will visit your website will not have flash installed in their browser or on their computer and then won’t be able to view flash. Some browsers need a flash plugin before they can display the flash parts of the website or the full flash website. We will be able to add a piece of code in the back end which will be displayed in this situation that will then tell the visitor o download the flash plugin for their browser.

Another problem is that there are a lot of firewalls that blocks flash as flash files could contain viruses.

Will it be smart for me to use a full flash website for my business?

It’s not recommended to use a full flash website for a business as you want browsers to find your website and business on search engines such as Google and Yahoo. Google is able to index every word from a normal HTML or CMS website where it’s not the case with flash websites. Flash websites are more suitable for companies that has already made a name for themselves. So then visitors can just go to the website directly because the domain name will be well known already. If you’re going to use flash partly on a CMS or HTML website we reccomend Google AdWords to drive targeted traffic to your website.

We would rather recommend that you use flash sparingly for ex. in the header of your website or on the side. In that way visitors can still view your full website without installing or downloading a flash player because the text will be visible.
